About 2048
Every move slides all of the tiles as far as they can go in one direction. Two tiles with the same number merge into one tile worth their sum, and a new 2 or 4 appears in an empty square. When the board is full and no move can merge anything, the game is over.
It takes seconds to learn and much longer to master, and a round only lasts a few minutes, so it is easy to try one more time. After you reach 2048 you can keep going for an even bigger tile.
A popular approach is to keep your biggest tile in one corner and build a chain of smaller tiles along the edge next to it. Avoid the move that would pull that big tile out of its corner.
2048 was created by Gabriele Cirulli in 2014 and released as open source. Its official home is play2048.co.
